The Hymn Tune Index attributes most of the strophic settings in Knapp's first two publications (A Set of New Psalm Tunes, and Anthems for Christmas Day) to Knapp himself, but none of those in his New Church Melody. Some had been previously published by Beesly in 1746, but I cannot work out why Temperley thought all the others to be doubtful. Any ideas?
