William Adkin Andrew (1809-1875) of High Street Baptist Church, Boston

David Shuker
I wonder if anyone has come across any information about singers at the High Street Baptist Church in Boston, Lincs. I have two manuscript music books belonging to William Adkin Andrew (1809-1975), grocer and seedsman who appeared to have been a member of the High Street Baptist Church. The books are in pretty poor shape having been badly affected by damp and with some pages missing. I am putting together a list of tunes.

Jonathan
I have another copy of a William Andrew Ms, which I have catalogued and am working on at the moment.  I have tried to email David but the messages keep bouncing back.  If David contacts me direct I should be able to send something to him.

My personal email is in the directory.

Hello I have a printed psalter which I believe belonged to a farmer William North of Bilsby in Lincolnshire. I would be very interested to know if anyone has any information about any Lincolnshire psalters that are from further north in Lincolnshire as I appreciate that Boston is about 30 miles south of Bilsby.

Great project. For singers at High Street Baptist Church (Boston, Lincs), start by pinning dates and roles for William Adkin Andrew (as given, 1809–1975) and any household members; double-check the death year in civil indexes just in case. Church sources: minute books, church meeting notes, membership rolls, choir or “psalmody” lists, organ/choir fund subscriptions, and anniversary or tea-meeting programs; ask the current church if older records were deposited. Archives: Lincolnshire Archives and the State Library catalogue for “High Street Baptist Boston” and “psalmody/choir”. Newspapers: British Newspaper Archive for concert adverts, anniversary services, obituary mentions, and eisteddfod-style reports; search by “psalmody”, “sacred concert”, “choir”, and the surname. Music ID: when pages are damaged, capture the first incipit (first 3–5 words or first 4–8 notes), any tune names (“Old Hundredth”, “Mear”, “St. Anne”), meter (C.M., L.M., 7s), and attributions; cross-reference in Hymnary and 19th-century tune collections. West Gallery angle: compare your titles/incipits to WGMA tune lists and local chapel books; copy any fuguing entries and note parts (T C A B). Preservation: air-dry gently, interleave with acid-free paper, photograph in raking light, and transcribe before handling again. If you post a few clear photos of contents and the hand, people can help resolve titles and dates quickly.

Por cierto, si además estás preparando ropa para peques para un concierto o una celebración del coro, aquí tienes una selección de vestidos para filtrar por talla, color y ocasión y acertar a la primera.
